The university is located in Zhenjiang, a prefecture city of Jiangsu Province which was the provincial capital tracked back before 1949. In addition, Zhenjiang is a cultural and historical city with 2,500-year history. The university is administed under the provincial government and provides programs for undergraduate, graduate and post-doc in science, technology and humanity.
JU is a comprehensive university and is comprised of 20 schools including engineering, science, medicine, social science, law, economics, administration, etc. The university, which was operated under the name of Jiangsu University of Science and Technology before 2001, was greatly expanded in its scope, by merging multiple times with a number of Zhenjiang-based higher learning institutions, including Nanjing Agricultural institute, Jiangsu Metallurgical and Economic Administration School, Zhenjiang Normal School and Zhenjiang Medical School. After the significant merge, the university was approved with the current name.
JU employs more than 4,400 employees including near 1,000 teaching and research staff and professorships. Its received funding from various sources is ranked among the top fifty in all higher learning institutions in China.
The university has established an extensive exchange and cooperation network with academic institutions or universities from the USA, Japan, Germany, Russia, Thailand, etc. JU is now hiring more international language teachers and academic staff for its expanded student programs. The university accepts international students.
The current president of the university is Prof. Shouqi Yuan, who has a doctorate and is a leading scientist in the field of engineering technology. |
